Costa Rica, West Valley Region "Medium Roast"
Description: Costa Rica contributes less than 1% of the world’s coffee production, yet it has a strong reputation for producing some of the best coffee in the world. Bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south, the Caribbean Sea to the east and Pacific Ocean on the west, Costa Rica has complex microclimate and weather patterns. The country has more than 60 volcanoes that impart rich minerals to the soil and influence the quality coffee grown here. Costa Rica boasts eight coffee growing areas, and this regional select coffee is from smallholder farms in the West Valley. These farms are located on the far west edge of the country’s coffee growing region, where there is morning sunshine, afternoon rain, rich volcanic soil, and high elevation without frost. This is a coffee grower’s heaven! The West Valley produces a quarter of Costa Rica’s total coffee, and this region is home to awards for Costa Rica’s Cup of Excellence in recent years.
The Regional Select program highlights unique profiles found in specific regions within coffee producing origins. This program allows for numerous small farmers to contribute to a larger offering through the selective blending of their coffees. Costa Rica only allows Arabica coffee beans to be grown here to keep a high quality for their coffee production. Coffee harvesting in Costa Rica is done by hand. These West Valley regional select beans are then washed for a clean flavor profile. This is our second offering from Costa Rica-we hope you like it!
