(New) Costa Rica Organic Smithsonian Bird Friendly Finca Amistad

$10.00 - $20.00

This Certified Organic Costa Rican coffee is a bird-friendly bean from Hacienda la Amistad. This bean is grown organically in Costa Rica's highlands near the border of Panama and uses a washed processing method.
The owner and third-generation farmer Roberto Montero has a commitment to his community that runs deep. Seasonal harvest workers and their families receive housing and free medical care. Full-time year-round farm workers also run a dried fruit operation as well as coffee cultivation. The owners distribute school supplies to workers' children each fall —showing his commitment to the environment as well as the community,
The owners have dedicated land for organic coffee production. History shows the majority of the land this company purchased in the 1900’s was dedicated to forest preservation and donated back to the government of Costa Rica. This created La Amistad International Park, the largest natural reserve in Central America. This has helped them to uphold a thriving habitat that earned the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Council (SMBC) Bird Friendly Shade Grown Certification. This certifies farms are organic, deforestation-free, and guarantee habitat protection through agroforestry or forest conservation practices. Finca la Amistad is currently the only farm in Costa Rica to have SMBC certification.
